“DOLOMITES”
(Part 2)
This is the continuation of my ride through the famous Dolomite mountains in north-eastern Italy. If you haven’t already read the first part, I recommend you to do so. You will find the first part ➡ HERE ⬅.
So, lets start with the second part of day number ten of my “COVID DETOUR RIDE” within some of the most famous areas of the European Alps.
When the brake was over …
the ride continued and led us into a gruff…
part of the Dolomites close to …
“Col Rodella Peak”. Only a few kilometers further …
the pass height of the “Sella Pass” (also: Sella Joch) was reached. Descending on …
the norther side of the pass height offered this nice panorama over …
some high alpine woods and …
alpine pastures. What an eye opener! We left …
the mountain “Wolkenstein” behind us and …
enjoyed the nice …
peakview on our way to my …
most favored corner in the Dolomites …
near the famous skiing villag “Cortina D’ampezo”:
Here this little part of the Dolomites isn’t looking like a part of the European Alps. Its so rocky and in combination with the landscape it could be located in Colorado/USA, just with a lack of warm red and brown tones. 😍
Now Чернотa and I slowly left the Dolomites …
northwards along empty and sporty …
little mountain roads …
providing nice cloudy views over Italys beautiful mountains.
In the city “Cortina d’Ampezzo” the source of …
the world wide Covid-Pandemia was found. ^_^
At the lake “Dobbiaco” I stopped for a short last glance back to beautiful Italy. Close to the border with Austria …
the military cemetery of the village “Innichen” lies just aside the street. It is like most of the memorials in the alpine regions a WWI monument.
Still on Italian soil …
this advert forced me to stop immediately …
for a special type of pizza. 🍕🤤💦
Well-fed we left Italy for Austria, just right in time after 36 hours towards entering it via the ferry boat coming from Corsica Island. Interestingly neither on the Italian- nor the Austrian side of the border was a Covid-Checkpoint/Border-Patrol. Indifferent! At least I was back in my native country. Whilst entering Austria via …
Eastern-Tirol …
the very old bridge “Punbrugge” (built in 1781) and “Castle Heinfels” was passed and some …
local farmers where seen making the last hay of the year.
The sun was only about an inch away from the horizon, so I had to find quick a place for shelter. In Carintia, right …
at a little sidearm …
of the river “Möll” near the Village “Ausserfragant” …
a quiet place was found, for building up the last shelter for this journey. This in a completely …
unspectacular manner near some power lines in the woods aside the river. Darkness in the valley of river “Möll” rose fast due to the …
high surrounding mountains. With the fading light temperature sank quickly. I prepared myself with an extra layer of clothes for the incoming cold night in the moist valley where cold melt water was feeding the main river.
Total distance of this riding day: 422km or 260 mi.
The next part will follow soon. Stay tuned!
